Luna Park Review
Ralph Slatton’s pen-and-ink drawing on the front and back of the issue is complimented by a five print set inside the magazine, enigmatic representations of creatures encapsulated by thick branches and ropes. Slatton’s work is a preface for the issue’s contents: eclectic, dark, with sufficient breadth to make the magazine more like a book than a collection of individual pieces.

Creature Discomforts
Slatton was one of my professors and was on my committee for my BFA show. I'm pretty sure everyone has a soft spot for him, and he's a talented printmaker as well. You should see some of his "sketches". They're much better than anything I will ever draw.

THE SLATTON NEXUS

Ralph Slatton is webmaster of this eerie site. Its purpose is to astound, sedate, and utterly confuse your rationality. Maybe a word should be given about the man, the artist, the printmaker, Ralph Slatton. On second thought, let's talk about this web page instead. Be a little cautious as you peruse its information. As stated in the the spirit of a Haiku, "Slatton mutters. No sound was heard. The trees moved."

By the time you make out what was said, you're not quite sure how to respond. Should I take seriously such topics as, "President Nixon Addresses UFO Disclosure?" Or, would it be any more pertintent if I had used President Obama instead. Herein lies the essential genius. It is the nexus where two parallel lines meet; it is the shadow realm, where puppets inspect their strings and clowns remove their face paint. It is a Tarot deck where all the cards are identical, except the one printed on the box. It is a genealogy chart where everyone is born on the same date, or Dada is rational. This site holds all these allegorical secrets, like burning coals in the eyes of a snowman.

Just one more word about the levity of these statements. The angels take themselves lightly, because they have wings to fly. But, the courageous have wings of stone.

But what is this site about, really? Consider this a doorway to my other silly and unusual sites. I have many interests delving into fantasy, science fiction, pseudo science, parapsychology, and off-the-wall art projects. At the moment, I'm really not sure where this will go, so consider this merely a portal to some of my favorite hiding places. Maybe it serves the same purpose as my old tree house on 614 Kentucky Ave. It was a secure place for me in 1962, even with the risk of falling.

A word should be said about the name, "Blackhandpress." I'm a printmaker and thought it would be nice to create a serious printmaking site. Printmakers usually have black hands, after a session with their printing press, so the title suggests my profession. Fortunately, I'm all out of serious content, so let's have some fun instead.
